(02) — The project
Pinewood Long House
A house one room deep
The plantation edge runs east to west, so we did too. The plan is a single row of rooms under one pitched roof, 64 metres from the boot room to the sauna. Nothing is more than six metres from a window, and the corridor is a glazed gallery facing the trees.
The slab sits 90 cm above the dune on 38 screw piles. Snowmelt runs under the house instead of around it, and the sand grasses were back within one summer.
Built in three seasons
A local joinery shop prefabricated the cladding panels over the winter. The shell went up in eleven weeks, and the family moved in the following autumn.

We stopped asking where to put the furniture. The house tells you where to sit at each hour.
